Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist
LOCATION:
South Texas (Houston Area)
Perform a full spectrum of safety and health services and provide insight and recommendations for safety and health procedures and processes.The Safety & Health Specialist reports – or “dotted line” reports when located permanently at a Client site – to the President and is responsible for performing routine safety inspections, drafting client written safety procedures, assisting with accident/incident investigations including corrective actions, conducting training on procedures, and enforcing other regulatory requirements as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitor and Investigate Safety and Health (S&H) Compliance
- Conducts investigations and root cause analysis and may make resolution recommendations.
- Participates in (S&H) site audits, inspections and routine surveys.
- Monitors site conditions, practices, and procedures for compliance with company, federal and state safety policies and regulations.
- Conducts hazard assessments such as required for respiratory protection and PPE.
- Plans, organizes, schedules and conducts inspections of facilities, work areas and equipment.
- Ensures safety equipment supply and availability.
- Recognizes potentially dangerous acts or situations.
- Records and Reports
- Assists in the development of technical documents including S&H procedures, programs, and guidance documents.
- Maintains various reporting systems and provides safety analyses as required, including the OSHA 300 Log.
- Modifies and implements compliance tracking programs and recordkeeping systems.
- Records data and compiles it into statistical analyses and reports.
- Provides Preventative/Corrective Action Support
- Attends and participates in professional and committee meetings related to health and safety issues.
- Serves as a principal source of information on safety and health issues.
- Assists with the development and administration of programs, materials, reports and training.
- Recommends corrective actions and follows-up to ensure proper closure has been achieved.
- Field Work / Travel
- Perform field work for client 2 weeks a month
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The incumbent must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:
- High level of knowledge of OSHA safety and health “General Industry” and “Construction” regulations.
- Air monitoring measuring tools such as for confined space, hydrogen sulfide.

- Experience
- 2+ years of EHS experience
- Oil and Gas industry experience preferred
WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical Demands
- The Safety Specialist may remain in a normal seated position for extended periods of time or standing for extended periods of time. Lifting may be required (up to 30 lb). Physical tasks such as bending, stooping, kneeling, standing, and walking significant distances will be required. Must be able to wear safety equipment as required for personal protection.
Environmental Conditions
- The Safety Specialist will work both indoors and outdoors. Field duties may require outdoor work in a plant atmosphere at client locations. Working in plant and/or shop areas around production machinery with extreme noise levels. Must be able to tolerate unfavorable to extreme climate and temperature changes and other environmental and weather conditions.
Driving Hazards
The Safety Specialist may be required to travel, including possible long hours on the road.
Sensory Demands
The Safety Specialist is required to spend long hours on the computer entering report information which requires attention to detail and high levels of accuracy. Good vision is required with or without correction. Mobility and the ability to carry equipment up to 30 lb. is necessary for potential field work.
Mental Demands
The Safety Specialist will interact with clients and colleagues and will be required to work in settings that can be distracting. The incumbent may be required to manage several projects at a time with various clients, colleagues or other necessary contacts in the industry. This may be distracting and may cause stress. Prioritizing and organizational skills are required.
